Pinwheel Apartments

10 new high-quality apartments are proposed on a site in Dublin. The site is introverted - surrounded on all sides by mature trees.

The Plan is composed of three wings rotated around a central outdoor core, like a pinwheel. Each of the 10 apartments shares from a common list of ingredients - a recessed balcony, a bay window, an external front door like a house - but by rotating the balconies, each apartment enjoys a unique dual-aspect.

A central bathroom in each apartment divides spaces without a need for corridors and allows unbroken views from inside to outside for each of these dual-aspect apartments. The Cross-Laminated Timber structure is exposed internally, and clad in a white brick outside.

The form of the building makes three residents gardens around itself at different levels, planted with Silver Birch trees. Views in and out are carefully screened and controlled.
