Feasibility Study
The Dingle Creativity and Innovation Hub exists as a physical space and as an anchor point for sustainable, tech and creative projects on the Dingle Peninsula. The Hub community supports dynamic conversations everyday, leading to exciting projects and innovation. The Hub works with the farming community, SMEs, government and creative sectors to aid the Dingle Peninsula transition to a low carbon future.
Wrkshop Architects were appointed to carry out this feasibility study to assess potential new futures for the existing building. We have analysed the existing building including its history, context and condition, the operational needs of the Dingle Hub and its context within the Dingle Peninsula.
Our work is preliminary, to form the basis for funding applications to realise the full Dingle Creativity and Innovation Hub project. Taking the existing, 1,000sqm Ex-Industrial building, we lead an intensive process of Brief Development, Strategy Definition, and Consultation, in tandem with a Building Condition Survey and Measured Survey. We have prepared 2 design options which illustrate the capacity, flexibility, and adaptability of this building to accommodate the needs of Dingle Creativity and Innovation Hub.
Resilient Spaces
By working carefully with what already exists, this building can be upgraded with a suite of new private rental offices, hot desks, and meeting spaces. A new communal social space can host events, while a large conference room looks across the harbour. Externally, the building's appearance will be upgraded, and new landscape works will accommodate full universal accessibility with an enhanced sense of connection to the harbour and the town.
Sustainable Upgrades
We propose a full energy retrofit of the existing building using high performance materials with low amounts of embodied carbon. The output of our work outlines a methodology for building upgrades, a building fabric energy strategy, a design brief and explorations of potential futures for the spatial and fabric upgrades.
